Description

The adult male is grayish brown above with darker streaks. Back and tail-coverts are whitish with some pink and dark streaks. It has a black bib It has a red forehead, and, during the breeding season, the breast and face are pinkish-red. The flanks are buff with dark streaks and the belly and undertail-coverts are white. There are two pale bars on the wing. The adult female is similar but pink is only on the forehead and sometimes on face. Belly is dirty white. The juvenile has no pink at all.

Distribution

Winters throughout the entire territory.
